Caraway Seed Apple Whiskey Cocktail | Saint Patricks day
Saint Patties day is right around the corner and so are so many amazing traditions. What do you do to celebrate saint patty's day? Well, most replies are beer, beer and lots more beer with some beef! Well, not being much of a beer drinker myself I always want other options like cocktails with refreshing twists and unique flavors. So when I started thinking of flavors I wanted to incorporate into the cocktail everything that came to mind was green, green cucumbers, green mint, green leaves, green eggs and ham, wait not the last two! Haha But all Dr. Sous references aside, flavors were speeding through my mind, but I had a hard time choosing. Finally, I realized that I was too average picking green, besides the color green is not a flavor! I knew that this cocktail should be Irish through and through, not just kitschy. So I decided to do something different, go with ingredients that are primarily used in Ireland. I thought all the rest would come to me.. Well, it kind of did. Instead of an aggressive cocktail with just one note of flavor, I wanted to create a story.
Irelands green pastures, rolling hills, quaint homes, dewy florals and overcast skies. With all this in mind, I started brainstorming! Staying true to my Irish roots, I chose caraway seeds, apple and Irish whiskey.
Please just try this cocktail before you cast it aside, I worked so hard to find the right balance of caraway seed! So it was more nostalgic than throwing that pungent taste at you. That's how it comes across, like a memory. So subtle that you think you're eating your mothers soda bread again.
The whiskey is warm on your tongue, balanced with the sharp sweetness of the freshly pressed apple granny smith apples and the added bite of ginger beer makes this cocktail worthy of all most all holidays! But honestly, I believe the secret caraway seed simple syrup, is what makes this stand out from anything else.. Mysterious and cheeky, just like the leprechauns.
Happy Saint Patrick's day! I am officially sloshed, at 1 pm for this blog post.
